Sabir Ali's accident

A 7 year old boy from Chak 21 near Pir Mahal, had his right arm crushed by a sugar cane press, whilst playing nearby in the fields where his labourer dad was working for that days dinner. His arm had to be amputated, although Prof Rathore at Rajana Hospital said “it could have been a lot worse if not treated quickly”.

The hospital has a dedicated paediatric consultant to oversee the childrens ward at Foundation Hospital Rajana.

It is nice to report that Sabir's arm was saved and now he is undergoing plans and evaluations for an artificial limb.

Injury By Fire-Cracker

It was 4.30pm in October 2008 and i was about to finish my last 8th operation of the day when i recieved a n call from emergency. Muhammad Ali, a 12yrs old boy of chak no 291 GB, had a firecracker injury of his face whicj exploded during a marriage party. He was semi conscious.

He was bleeding from his right eye, nose and a wound on his face and as a result bleeding profusely.

He should have been sent to a ENT surgeon but due to lack of emergency wards and the nearest proper ENT in Lahore approc 250Km away. I was afraid he would loose his eye.

Besides being tired of the days work, I decided to operate on him immediately. He had a 3x3 cm deep burnt wound between his right eye and bridge of the nose.

The gunpowder had burnt out a large hole in his face, shattering the right ethmoid sinus, back of the nasal cavity. It also had lodges dirt and foreign material. Loose small bone chips were removed and the bunt up skin area repaired

Thanks Allah he came in time and his eye sight is normal and little crookednes on the face.
