Frequently asked questions

Where is Rajana?

Against this backdrop of deprivation, Rajana lies in the lush agricultural lands of the Punjab, at the junction of highways to four major towns – Pir Mahal, Toba Tek Singh, Kamalia and Sumundari.

The local population consists largely of poor farmers with small holdings. Before 2005, rural healthcare facilities were almost non-existent. Any medical or surgical problem meant a journey of 100 kilometres to the nearest major health facility at Faisalabad city. But now, there is a ray of hope, in the shape of The Foundation Hospital that provides state of the art healthcare to the people of Rajana and surrounding areas.

What is the state of health in Pakistan?

More than half of Pakistan’s population of 150 million people lack safe water, basic sanitation and adequate nutrition. As a consequence, preventable diseases are rife, with diarrhoea and respiratory infections accounting for the majority of illnesses and deaths.

The healthcare of women and children is of particular concern. Compared to the rest of Asia, the health status of women is particularly poor: 30,000 die annually from complications in pregnancy. One in 38 women dies in childbirth itself, and ten times more develop lifelong disabilities in pregnancy. With 93 deaths per 1,000, infant mortality is just as deplorable. A quarter of all children suffer from low birth weight, and 10% die before their first birthday.

When did Foundation Hospital Rajana start?

The hospital’s doors opened in October 2005, just the start of a very long journey. The sheer scale of the health needs of the poorest communities in Pakistan shows that there is still so much more that needs to be done.

Is the Hospital making a visible difference?

It’s wonderful to be able to report on how the Foundation Hospital in Rajana is bringing affordable, quality healthcare to so many people. The hospital’s services are helping to save lives and bring healthcare to thousands who would otherwise have gone without.

What does FHR and FHC stand for?

FHR or FH Rajana is short for 'Foundation Hospital Rajana'. and FHC or FH Chichawatni is short for 'Foundation Hospital Chichawatni'.
